In this session we were given an InDesign document and told to find 8 faults in the file to do with the print sessions we have had previously.
This is the document...

1) The first problem we identified was that there was no bleed margin on the edges of page one, the tree image was coming off the page. When it is trimmed... you will get white edges if the trimming is inacurate.

2) The initial file for the tree image was missing. If sent to print with a missing file, you will only get a low quality InDesign preview which is not acceptable.

3) Some of the images are not to scale, that is alright with illustrator files as they are vector, but photoshop files will not give a high resolution image.

4) The fifth bird image was in a very low resolution. It has a DPI of 72/72 when it is supposed to be 300/300.

5) When looking at the separations to preview palette there are 7 separations when the maximum amount of printing plates is five. You should always delete unused spot colours from the swatches palette as you could be charged more.

6) The back cover type was written in 'registration' which is a black used for crop marks and printers marks. It uses too much ink. It will be 100% of all CMYK and 100% of every spot colour used as well.
7) One of the swatches is in RGB not CMYK.

8) The third bird is also in RGB.
