WHAT?
I intend to produce a 50 second title sequence and four 10 second idents for a programme depicting a countdown of top 10 dog breeds.
WHO?
I am intending this programme to be aimed at people interested in dogs (dog lovers, dog breeders, people interested in buying a dog, people who use dogs as fashion accessories etc...)
WHERE?
This is a programme intended for the television
HOW?
I am going to do this in the form of an animation created using a range of Adobe software (illustrations and stills using Photoshop and Illustrator... and animating these using After Effects).
TONE OF VOICE
I am intending on making this a very 'cute' and 'kitsch' animation using pastel colours and carefully constructed, friendly type and animation.

Top 10 - Dogs
Following my decision for doing top ten dogs... I did a small sweep of students and friends, using both word of mouth and Twitter.
These are the results on people's favourite dog breeds.
1. Husky
2. Jack Russell Terrier
3. Labrador
4. Cocker Spaniel
5. St Bernard
6. English Pointer
7. Australian Shepherd
8. British Bull Terrier
9. Labradoodle
10. Dachshund (sausage dog)
However, I want to include many other breed of dog as, in a top 10 programme, many don't make the cut... It is very rare that the title sequence only includes the top...

More Type Experiments... in storyboards
After playing around with a lot of typefaces, this is the one I have chosen... for the beginning anyway.
Barlow Number 2
First dog designs
To start with, I decided to play around with some photographs of dogs.
For this I photoshopped them to look like old, grainy, black and white photographs as I want a kitsch finish to my animation... for it to look like a collage at some points.

Top 10 - Type ideas
After thinking about this a lot, I felt I needed to come to a fixed decision on the way I wanted this to look.
I want to come to decisions quickly so I can get on with designing.
First, the typefaces I want to use...
This was tricky, I needed to decide on the tone of voice of the animation/programme before I could decide.
I settled on cartoon-like fonts, because I want it to look quite fun.
These are a few which I thought looked appropriate.

Top 10 final idea
After the session, where we were hurried along to come to a decision, I decided on doing Top 10 dog breeds.
I came to this conclusion when I realised that I had already done Anberlin and Hi-tops and didn't want to come to the point where I was repeating myself by doing them again, so starting with a brand new fresh idea.
I also chose this due to the amount of possibilities there are for this subject, the scope of imagery attached to dogs, the actual amount of dog breeds... and the sound possibilities.
I need to be careful not to make this generic in any kind of way.

Top 10 Idea Generation
So I've been trying to think of a subject that I really want to do for my Top 10 brief, something that I can really relate to and push to it's extreme.
I needed to take into consideration...
Things with a lot of imagery attached.
Good sound possibilities.
Consider type.
Consider how I will put it together.
Drawing?
Illustrator?
Photography?
Type?
Fonts....
This is a mind-map of possible ideas.
