A lot of 'The Cape Race's' imagery focuses on water, sinking... the sea. I decided to see what it would look like if I could incorporate this into my 'heart hands' design in a way that would add to the context of the image. I looked around different ways in which I could do this and started experimenting.
The essence of the image centres around the sadness of the difference in life lines of the couple and the amount of love that will go into the time that they have together. I already have the hands making a heart... I thought I could add water by adding tear drops in some way to the side of the 'alive' hand (the photograph). My first experiment with this is to hand-do this with collage.
I printed off 3 different blue textures and set about cutting out different sizes of tears with a scalpel.
I then went about sticking them on by hand...
I then played with different filters in photoshop to make them look a little less 'cut and paste' and a little more flowing.
There is a lot more experimentation to be done with this idea. I think I am going to computer generate it... and maybe combine the two.
