Extend... more working out

So I've been trying to extend my serifs. Storyboarding mentally and trying out different ways of doing it.
I asked my friend, and he suggested maybe making solid layers and extending these... not the actual type. This is a video showing me from afar kind of the effect it would have...



But I think, for the more complicated serifs I am trying to extend, this might not work.
I have tried to see what it would look like if I did it on Illustrator. This is a screen shot. I will then play around with masks.
