2 Guide zones in a photoshop or illustrator file for film & video.
Inside - Title safe zone - Keep any type within this zone.
Outside - Action safe zone - Keep any action within this zone.

Layers in Photoshop and Illustrator can be used as layers in After effects too.

Save as tiff file if not bothered about separate layers.
Save as illustrator or psd if want to keep layers separate.

New File in Illustrator - Settings

New File in Photoshop - Settings

Import as Footage -  This is what will come up in the project window
Use this if you do not want to retain your layers. It will flatten your image. Merge layers.

Import as Composition - This is what will come up in the project window.
Use this if you want to keep the layers, will allow you to play with the layers in after effects.

Import as composition - retain layer sizes means the anchor point is different in each layer.
