So, that time of year again... The Leeds University Book Fair.
This year, there is a lot more scope in the brief to do different things. There is no specific layout that we need to stick to.
We simply have to base it on either...
- A sound
- A shape
- A typeface
- A colour
As with all the other image briefs, we had to come to a decision very quickly about what we were going to do... what direction we wanted to take this in.
Recently, I have found that a lot of the briefs that I have worked on haven't been on things that I have been completely passionate about... so I decided to take this one in a direction that I would really enjoy... the idea generation, the designing, the creating, the content and, ultimately, the final product.
So... I decided to base this book on a shape... whales. More specifically whale tails. There is so much imagery that I could create with this.
Initial thoughts went back to the hot-dog fold format we did last year. I think this would be appropriate as I would like to create a poster to accompany the book... and put it on the back. Simultaneously book and poster.
Initial thoughts are to create a book of illustrations, maybe different ways of drawing and illustrating these whale tails... and maybe adding type into the mix.
I want a fixed colour palette.
