The poster design for the single came very easily once I had decided on the general imagery I was going to use for this series of merchandise.
As I want all of it to look like it is in a series, I created much the same for each piece, with added information for the singles where it was needed. I want to make it very clear that these are limited edition pieces, made to appeal to fans of the band who would want to keep a piece of merchandise to remember the single and to feel special that it is limited. Something that is aesthetically pleasing... that they will want to see every day on a wall.
The colour matches the other print products. The image generated from the scan of the blue sugar paper. The general theme of the poster is also similar just with more abstract images to fill up the space.
Type positioning experiments
The type on top of the image is illegible.
I wanted to see what it would look like if I changed the colours to white... after this I have decided that it is not punchy enough. The attention is then drawn a lot more to the imagery above. I need them to compliment each other.
I think this points out the obvious a little too much.
I also included my original abstract image. The poster needed a lot more detail as it is on a much larger scale. This was the perfect addition. I am glad I got to incorporate it somewhere as it took me a long time to produce (not to mention a major headache).
It's transparency allows it to make an impact but not retract from the message of the imagery.
