I think this was the brief I found the trickiest to come up with ideas for. However after looking more into what 'type as image' really was... I became a lot more inspired. These pictures are on my Context blog.
Secretly
I really like the result of this piece. The secretive nature of the type really puts the word into context.
It taught me about print processes and I will use this technique of printing those CMYK values with tracing paper again.
I wish I could
I wanted to incorporate photography into this brief and this was the piece that was perfect for me. I was initially struggling with ideas for this one... not really knowing what I wanted to do. It was one of those lightbulb moments when I noticed the shadows that I could change the way I was thinking and produce a piece which was much more appropriate to the quote itself.
I am glad I took the time to cut the type out physically as if I had manipulated the image and typed them in using Photoshop, it would look a lot less real.
If I had more time, I would have played around more with the shadows at different times of day, using different subjects to really get the flying shape perfect.
I am either angry, frightened or drunk
This was the piece that I was very unhappy with the first result I produced, it almost looked lazy.
I took people's advice and used a different typeface... and manipulated the actual letterforms to get a much better result.
It still does not look perfect, if I had more time I would like to learn how to actually make the type look indented rather than just adding a shadow.
I think each one of these are very different, I tried to make them as varied as possible, and they fulfill the brief. They are not image, with type added.
