At first, I thought this would be a very tricky brief to complete, especially in Leeds, as I didn't know anyone with a hamster (or small rodent) that could fill the part. So I set about making one out of card and tissue paper. I thoroughly enjoyed my morning back to pre-school... but it didn't turn out quite to plan and my final image, set in front of a red-brick house in Leeds looked very rushed and unprofessional, however silly it was meant to look, it looked nothing like the picture that was originally drawn by Brian.
When we had the crit, my fears were confirmed, and it was clear a lot more effort was needed. A real animal and maybe making a house would be a lot more successful. So this is what I did.
Creating the house and putting it into different scenarios really made the final image a lot more successful in communicating what I needed to say.
I think this was the brief, in the end, that I enjoyed the most. It brought out my love of crafting, and, when I finally put real thought in, the final image is something I am actually proud of.
It really woke me up to a different way of working and planning.
