Brief 1 Rationale - Editorial

BRIEF

To produce images to accompany several articles (from the Guardian Magazine) appropriate to the story and space given.

WHO NEEDS TO KNOW?

The Guardian Magazine readers.

WHAT DO THEY NEED TO KNOW?

They need to see and interact with a visual accompaniment to the article they are reading. An image that puts the article into perspective. Adding context to the article.

WHY DO THEY NEED TO KNOW?

Because it re-enforces what is actually written in the article.

WHAT WILL THEY RESPOND TO?

The image positioned with the text and its appropriateness in backing up what the article is saying.

WHAT RESEARCH IS REQUIRED?

To fully read and understand exactly what the articles mean.
Read other articles by the same authors to see what their general tone of voice is and see what other kind of imagery they have used for them.
Ask fellow students their thoughts on what could have been there before.
